Peng LI

Dr. Peng Li works as a professor of the School of Life Sciences at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China since 2006. She also works as a Director of the Division of Life Sciences, National Natural Science Foundation of China now. She got her Bachelor's Degree from Beijing Normal University in 1987 and Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences at University of California, San Diego in 1995. She then did her post-doctoral training in Howard Hughes Medical Institute, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas (U.S.A) and Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (Singapore) between 1996-1997. She became an assistant professor and principal investigator in the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Singapore at the end of 1997. She then moved to Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2003 and became tenured associate professor in 2005.


Dr. Li became an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Science due to her achievements in lipid metabolism and lipid droplet (LD) biology. Dr. Li has made important contributions in understanding the molecular mechanism of LD fusion, lipid storage and secretion. Her research has unveiled the cellular basis of obesity, fatty liver and insulin resistance, the metabolic diseases that affect large population in the world.
