Kangpu XU
Director, Laboratory of Preimplantation Genetics, Center for Reproductive Medicine, Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University, USA

Dr. Kangpu Xu is the Director of the Laboratory of Preimplantation Genetics at the Center for Reproductive Medicine (CRM), and in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, of Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University. He completed PhD in Denmark where he studied in vitro oocyte maturation, fertilization and preimplantation embryo culture. He then went to Canada for his post-doctoral training where his focus was on cytogenetic and molecular mechanism of preimplantation embryonic development. Since 1992, he has served as a faculty member, principle investigator and laboratory director at Weill Cornell. His clinically certified lab has been providing in-house PGD (Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis) and PGS (Preimplantation Genetic Screening) cervices for CRM patients, beginning from a few dozen patient in the 1990ies to over a thousand in 2017. He has lead the Cornell team in research and development in PGD and PGS, using a variety of single cell technologies for various biopsied materials. Collaborating with BGI, his team was one of the first to use Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology on a Roche desk-top NGS machine (Junior) for single cell CNV analysis. Dr. Xu is also interested applications of stem cell technology for regenerative medicine. He serves a senior scientific advisor for BGI and adjunct professors for several Chinese universities and he currently serves on the board of Directors of PGDIS (Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis International Society).
