Ruixin LIU
Department of Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases, Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, China

Ruixin Liu is an Associate Professor of Medicine. She received her Ph.D. degree in in Shanghai Jiaotong University. She studied in Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 2009-2011. Her research interest is focusing on the genetics and metagenomics of Obesity, aiming to find new therapeutic targets for obesity. By incorporating genetic sequencing and molecular studies, she has uncovered the low-frequency genetic variants in LGR4, NPC1 conferring high risk to human obesity. On the other side, by using shotgun sequencing, she has characterized the gut microbiome in Chinese young obesity, revealing the link between gut microbiota and blood metabolites in obesity and after weight-loss intervention, pointing to possibilities to intervene in obesity by targeting the gut microbiota. She has been supported by around 10 grants including three from National Natural Science Foundation of China, and five from Shanghai Municipal government. She has published more than 20 papers in peer-reviewed journals, including Nat Med, Nat Cell Biol, Diabetes, JCEM and Endocrinology.
