Professor, Sun Yat-sen University, China

Dr. Xie is a professor of Bioinformatics and Genomics at Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China. He also holds an appointment as Director of Big Data Center for Biomedicine, Sun Yat-sen University.

Dr. Xie received two undergraduate degrees in Applied Computing and Medical Science in New Zealand and China, respectively. In 2007, he obtained his Ph.D. in Computational Systems Biology at Lincoln University, New Zealand. After three years of postdoctoral fellowship at Wilmer Institute of Johns Hopkins University, he moved to National Institutes of Health, U.S., first as a Staff Scientist and then an Investigator during 2010 to 2013. In October, 2013, he started his position at Sun Yat-sen University, leading the Laboratory of Bioinformatics and Genomics.

Dr. Xie's lab currently focuses on two research areas: (1) Post-transcriptional regulation and translational regulation of gene expression. (2) Development of methods and database for analyzing large-scale biological data, particularly for third generation sequencing technology. He has published 37 papers, including Cell, Nature Methods and Molecular Systems Biology, with number of citations more than 1100.
