Dr. Nan Qin received his Ph.D. from the Department of Biological Sciences, Virginia Tech, US in 2008. Afterwards, Dr. Qin joined BGI in Shenzhen as the director of department of microbial genomics. In 2011, he joined Zhejiang University School of Medicine, and was promoted to a professor and doctoral supervisor in Collaborative Innovation Center of Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases. Dr. Qin is the PCOSS-Fellow of Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University and the Visiting-Fellow of Tenth people's hospital of Tongji university. Dr. Qin is the former secretary-general of the International Human Microbiome Consortium (IHMC), permanent council member of the Microecology Section, deputy director of the youth council and deputy team leader of digestion and nutrition of Chinese Preventive Medicine Association. He won the title of "Shenzhen’s National Talents" and "Shenzhen’s Overseas High-Caliber Personnel" in 2017, and was recognized as GRAND CHALLENGES 2015-YOUNG SCIENTISTS by Ministry of Science and Technology and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. As a co-founder, Dr. Qin founded the Innovator Association of Microbiome (IAM) in 2016, and the mission of IAM is to build a platform of information exchange for the microbiome field and promote exchanges and development between scientists and entrepreneurs in China and abroad. IAM has held two Innovator's Forum on Human Microbiome in 2016 and 2017. Dr. Qin is specialized in gut microbiome in infectious diseases, metabolic diseases and autoimmune diseases. His long-term goal is to apply the new technology of gut microbiome to diagnostics, prognostics and health monitoring. Dr. Qin has published more than 30 papers in Nature, Science, Nature Genetics, PNAS, PLOS Biology and other top academic journals since 2009.
