Leo Jingyu LEE

Dr. Leo Jingyu Lee is a senior research scientist in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research at the University of Toronto, leading the research effort in Prof. Brendan Frey's lab. Dr. Lee is one of the pioneers in applying deep learning techniques to genomics research and has extensive experience in applying machine learning methods to solve challenging computational problems in biotechnology. Dr. Lee obtained his PhD from the University of Waterloo, Canada, followed by a NSERC postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto. Prior to doing research in genome biology and medicine, he has worked in the speech technology group at Microsoft Research, USA, with four awarded patents. Dr. Lee is also consulting for Deep Genomics Inc., a startup company that aims to bring AI to medicine, and has been an advisor to BGI-research since 2015.
