Shengying LI

Shengying Li, Ph.D., Professor, the Enzyme Engineering Group Leader at Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Biology and master’s degree in Biology and Microbiology from School of Life Sciences, Xiamen University in 2000 and 2003, respectively. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Department of Medicinal Chemistry, College of Pharmacy at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA in 2009. From 2010-2012, he received his postdoctoral training on natural product biosynthesis in Professor David H. Sherman’s laboratory at Life Sciences Institute, University of Michigan. Concurrently, he served as a senior research scientist for Alluvium Biosciences Inc., where his efforts were focused on industrial strain improvement and microbial production of advanced biofuels. In 2012, he joined in Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, as a member of "1000 Young Talents Program". So far, he has published more than 40 research articles on a number of prestigious scientific journals such as Nature Chemistry, PNAS, JACS, NPR, and JBC. Now, he is serving as the Director of Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Synthetic Biology, the Associate Editor for BMC Biotechnology, and the Editorial Board Member for Journal of Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology.
